Anthropogenic Gd in urban river water

چکیده

As an emerging contaminant, rare earth elements (REEs) are becoming environmental concern, especially in Chinese cities. This study investigated the distribution of REEs river water and tap samples Guiyang, Southwest China. In all samples, concentrations total dissolved REE (∑REE) ranged from 15.1 to 53.3 ng·L–1, with heavy enriched than light elements. Most showed significant positive Gd anomalies, highest abnormal value calculated be 29.23. The main reason for anomalies was found release medical wastewaters containing Gadopentetic acids (Gd-DTPA). Overall, anthropogenic could contributed >60% waters waters. Because Gd-DTPA is commonly used large hospitals, results this implied that common

Anthropogenic influence on surface water quality of the Nhue and Day sub-river systems in Vietnam.

In order to investigate the temporal and spatial variations of 14 physical and chemical surface water parameters in the Nhue and Day sub-river systems of Vietnam, surface water samples were taken from 43 sampling sites during the dry and rainy seasons in 2007. The results were statistically examined by Mann-Whitney U-test and hierarchical cluster analysis. The results show that water quality of...

Decline of Yangtze River water and sediment discharge: Impact from natural and anthropogenic changes

The increasing impact of both climatic change and human activities on global river systems necessitates an increasing need to identify and quantify the various drivers and their impacts on fluvial water and sediment discharge. Here we show that mean Yangtze River water discharge of the first decade after the closing of the Three Gorges Dam (TGD) (2003-2012) was 67 km(3)/yr (7%) lower than that ...

Contrasting behaviour of anthropogenic gadolinium and natural rare earth elements in estuaries and the gadolinium input into the North Sea

All major rivers in northwestern Germany that flow into the North Sea, including the Weser River, display rare earth element (REE) patterns with large positive gadolinium (Gd) anomalies that indicate the presence of anthropogenic Gd derived from contrast agents used in magnetic resonance imaging. This microcontaminant cannot be removed by common sewage treatment technology and enters rivers and...

Occurrence of pathogenic bacteria in surface water of an urban river in Argentina (Reconquista River, Buenos Aires)

Buenos Aires city and surroundings is one of the largest 20 urban agglomerations in the World. It is crossed by the Reconquista River, a lowland course directly associated with millions of people. The present study deals with an assessment of microbial populations from surface water along the main course and its tributaries over a period of three years. These watercourses showed high levels of ...

Heavy metals contamination in water and sediments of an urban river in a developing country

Water and sediment samples were collected from 20 location of the Buriganga river of Bangladesh during Summer and Winter 2009 to determine the spatial distribution, seasonal and temporal variation of different heavy metal contents. Sequential extraction procedure was employed in sediment samples for the geochemical partitioning of the metals. Total trace metal content in water and sediment samp...
